Marley, the great thing about training for a full is when you do some long runs, 18-20 miles, and then you think back to you half marathon and realize how easy that would be now!

thanks guys - i got to do some long runs last summer (many 16's, and a couple of 19's) - did those w regular sneaks - with vibes - my longest thus far has been some 16's - i was initially planning on doing a fully mary in may but i think i might wait until fall - and instead do some other long races between now and then - one thin i learned is you cant force the issue w vibes - your training must be patient

Did the local St Pats 5K this morning. This was my first race ever and I'm pleased with my performance. I wanted to beat 9:00 min/mil and I ended up with 8:48 min/mi, so I'm considering it a great success. Did the 5K in my KSOs. It was fun, I had convinced most of my office staff to run the 5K. One of the younger engineers thought he would pace just behind me and then pass me at the very end. After mile 2, he realized that wasn't happening. My office manager then remarks "the old man beat us all".
In two weeks I'm doing the 1/2 marathon in Kansas City. After this morning I'm really looking forward to that run. Can't convince any of my office staff to join me for that one though.

Just finished a throughly pleasant 20K run in my KSOs - spite of it being overcast and windy, temps of 5C, and lots of cold puddles on the sidewalks.

Pushed for an 8 miler today. I had to slow the training down after a blister bout following a 3 mile barefoot attempt last week. The run today felt good apart from the blister flare-up around 5 miles. I toughed through the last 3 miles, but I might pay for that later. Looking forward to moonlight run this weekend. Should be a fun time.

I am finding that I have issues running in my VFFs on the treadmill - I tend to get very tight/sore calves. I think this is because I can not seem to get as good of a forward leaning type of posture like I can when road running. Any one else experience this? Or is treadmill running in VFF's something I need to adapt to and build up to for speed/distance?

Do you have the treadmill set at an incline of 1%? That's said to reflect running on a flat outdoor course. If you have the treadmill set at 0% incline, that may be the reason for your soreness.
Do you stretch your calves before running? Both gastroc and soleus stretches?
I ran all winter on my treadmill without any issues - but barefoot, not in my KSOs.

8K hill repeat session. Sunshine and 11C. Barefoot, bareheaded, and shorts. Absolute bliss!

thanks alan - tried elevations from 0% to 1% and still have the same issues - don't have these issues when running on the road. Hmm....don't stretch before running on the road, perhaps its necessary when t-mill running. will have to try it next time...
I would always run on at least a 1% incline on a t-mill with regular running shoes, as I have heard that it more reflects flat roads - and that 0% is more like running downhill and can be hard on the knees.
