Well, now that I've signed up, I need to start thinkin' about what VFF's I want. I've looked around and the ones that attract my attention so far are the classics (with and without wool), the bikila and the trek sports, but I want take bring home a pair or two, not all of em' (as much as I would love to haha Cheesy). So let me describe what I do on a daily basis.

Mostly, I do a lot of walking because I'm out and about driving and going places everyday. Occasionally, I'll play some basketball with the guys. I'll also go exploring in the desert in my back yard, so I'm surrounded by rocks, sand, dirt, mountains, etc. I am going to start running again very soon. I run at least 3-3.5 miles when I go for a run typically, but I want to increase that distance to at least 6 miles. I stopped because I didn't have any motivation or drive to get up and go running, but I want to get back into shape; running is fun after all Smiley.

Now what VFF do you guys think I need?

Thanks guys Smiley

Chris.

A sprint or KSO sounds like it'd be up your alley.  The strap will help keep the shoe from flying off, and the KSO's upper is good for keeping small rocks out of your shoes.

There are quite a few folks that run in their classics too.  I use them for low and no impact stuff like getting groceries, with the KSO filling in all high impact (ie running) roles.  I've had a pair of Bikilas and prefer the flat sole of the KSO for running.  If you're dead set on a Bikila or Trek Sport, ask yourself what surfaces you'll be running on.  Bikila for roads, Trek Sport or Treks for off road.

A little off topic but make sure you do your homework for running barefoot/minimally shod.  Running 3 miles unpadded and probably with a different technique could be a recipe for injury even though you're used to running those distances with shoes.  Everyone has a different experience with VFF running, and listening to your body can be tough to do when you're used to longer distances and don't want to stop running.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the madness!

well, you'll find adepts of every model on the board, so I guess eventually it will be your own pick. Plenty of this kind of threads to read, too. As people love talking about their favorite shoes, here, we haven't seen the end of these kind of discussions. One day you'll be talking to newcomers yourself, probably.
Oh yes, and get some Sprints to start with  Cheesy
