Well it is 2010... any one know what the status is of the Skora shoe(s)?  The website still says that Skora footwear will launch in 2010.  I haven't received an email from them in the longest time.  They seem pretty interesting and I was surprised they didn't launch these with the release of the Evo's.  I am going to see if I can reach out to them and find out any information but if anyone knows anything about the release date please let me know.

The last I had heard they were having capital ($$$) problems. With the EVO already out, I really don’t see how Skora plans to compete. It would not surprise me if they fold and never become reality. I believe both Skora and Vibram have been asleep at the wheel in regards to a minimalist specific running shoe. Allowing Terre Plana to launch the EVO before the Bikila was a BIG mistake. First to market is huge.

Check Out www.inov-8.com
They understand the whole barefoot/minimalist thing but also realise that for a lot of off-road you need a certain amount of grip and underfoot protection.
There is talk on the FRA Forum. http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showthread.php?t=8680 that says they are going to be doing barefoot shoes Roll Eyes

I was/am a huge inov-8 fan. Before taking on the experiment of wearing VFF exclusively, I was wearing mostly inov-8 shoes. In fact, I had just gotten a pair of their new racing flats. They are very interested in creating footwear that allows your foot to get back to doing the work. As their current line-up does not advertise to be 'near-barefoot,' it is exciting to hear the news that they are looking towards something more barefoot-like. Go inov-8!

I'm not really sure it was a mistake by Vibram to release the Bikila after the Evo.  The Evo retails $50.00 more then what the projected cost of the Bikila will be.  Also I think the biggest thing going for Vibram is the soles of their shoes.  How long do you think the life expectancy of the EVO will be?  I have been running in a pair of Black KSO's for a little over a year and a half now and the only problem I have is the stitching.  The soles are in great shape.  Sure they have worn but I do not have any holes in the bottoms.  I am betting the life expectancy of the EVO sole is a lot less.  I could be wrong...  I would also say you are probably right about the Skora project being a bust at this point.  No updates for several months...doesn't look like a good sign.  I guess time will tell.

UPDATE!

So I emailed SKORA back in March and just heard back from Dave today.

Dave said:

We're still working towards launch with our first 2 models.  Glad to talk some more in the near future as we'll rely greatly on passionate minimal footwear advocates to help get the word out.

I am actually pretty excited about this information.  SKORA has fallen off the map and like many of us speculated, we assumed the shoe would never come out.  With this information that they are planning on rolling out 2 models is pretty exciting.  I have always been a fan of crazy shoes (Hence why I love my VFF's) but the look of the SKORA shoe is Futuristic and I am hoping to be first in line when these come out.

I'll be chatting more with Dave at SKORA and will keep all of you in BirthdayShoe land updated...whether you like it or not Tongue

update - I received this email today from skora

Skora Newsletter // 002
One Foot in Front of the Other...Launching a new business can be kind of like running a race. You have your plans set up, everything is in place...and then sometimes stuff just happens. The roads were rougher than you had planned on and there were factors you didn't anticipate. So what do you do? Like any good runner would, at Skora we stepped back and re-assessed our plans and strategy. So although we had initially planned a Fall 2010 launch, the road of product development proved to be a little bit more of an 'uphill' than we had initially expected.

So What's the Deal?
In this newsletter we want to share our latest news, plans and expectations, a sort 'shoe training log'. Although we did have to delay our launch, we are anticipating our shoes to be available in late 2011. The excitement and interest from US and international running stores has been unprecedented. No one's seen anything like our shoes before and they believe and are excited by our passion, perspective and enthusiasm. The running world is ready for Skora.

Itchy Feet (the good kind)
This summer we will complete production and have the amazing tester prototypes ready and waiting for those anxious feet. Speaking of anxious feet, well, we've got those too! We have an incredible vision of where Skora can go and what it can mean to the running community if we've got the right backing. We're seeking investors who are excited and invigorated by the possibility of doing something totally new, totally awesome and absolutely possible. If you're interested in partnering with us or know someone who is, drop us a line. We're all ears (or feet) and ready to make Skora the best it can possibly be.

Skora is more than just a new kind of minimal running shoe. Skora is about a brand new perspective on training, business, running and life that will alter how runners and retailers look at their feet and their lives.

 Our Mental Game
At Skora our philosphy is to design bio-mechanically sound footwear created with highest quality materials; resulting in minimal shoes that look just as awesome as they feel. We've got a couple of initial models lined up that focus on the road runner. The first model is lace-free, streamlined, sleek and functional utilizing a slip-on design and z-shaped strap. The second model is an ingenious combination of asymmetrical lace design and incredible natural leathers, making form and function equal partners in a fantastic minimalist shoe.

So, that's where we're at and where we hope to go.

We’re building our base miles now and look forward to seeing you on the road.

Happy trails,

David Sypniewski – Founder/CEO

Just by the look of the sketch it seems very narrow in the toe box.  My wide feet would not feel comfortable.  But it is just a sketch.  They do look interesting though.
