Hello everybody.
My name is Andy and I'm new to the forum.
I own a brand new pair of VFF KSO with which I've been running for 3 weeks. I love them so much I believe there's no way back. What's more, I'm starting considering wearing them not just for running.
I've got just a minor complaint: the VFF's stitches, the ones in the  foot arch/big toe area. Whenever I have a long run (15 Km or more) I got minor blister (nothing that prevents me from running the day after).
Good news is that yesterday I run for 2 hours and only the right foot was affected. Do I have to believe that the VFF need to be broken into or just need to be wore more precisely? Anybody got a similar experience?
Thanks for your help

Hello!

Your feet will build up callus from the seams in the VFF. I just started wearing my KSOs again since it's gotten warmer and I've already gotten a blister. Like Marley mentioned, Injinjis would work! Those toe socks will prevent the rubbing. I'm wearing Injinjis until my foot heals, and then it's back to just VFF (and I imagine another blister will show up, but them's the breaks!)

Feet are going to develop blisters no matter what you put on them. Try putting moleskin on the area just like you would for blisters in "regular" shoes or hiking boots before the blister develops. For those who do not know how moleskin works, one side is felt and soft to reduce damage to what is rubbing the foot the other side has an adhesive to stick to the skin or the shoe. Some people stick the moleskin to the shoe. Not sure this helps a whole lot since the foot will still be rubbing against the moleskin. The moleskin can be cut to whatever shape you need then stuck to the skin. Note: if you already have a blister you will need to cut a hole in the moleskin so that the blister is not covered by the moleskin. This is to shield the blister from further irritation and to keep it from popping. It is suggested that you do not pop blisters but let them pop on their own to reduce the chance for infection.  Hope this helps.

This method doesn't work if the rubbing is being done by something smooth, but it works quite well if there's a rough edge or bump, because the moleskin is soft and smooth and covers the rough spot.

I find that sticking moleskin on a foot that's not in a sock is worse than useless, because the edges can catch and then the moleskin either peels off or takes skin with it. One of those gel bandaids especially designed for blisters works much better, though you have to be very careful peeling them off later, as they too will take skin with them if you don't go slow.

I second the gel type bandaids like Compeed if blisters do form. I've found it very effective and you can continue even with a bad blister. I actually leave the gel pads on for a few days and let it come off naturally. They're very comfortable to wear anyway.

Thanks you all for your ideas. I just wonder if Vibram is gonna solve the problems caused by stitches on the models to come, like the VFF Bikila.

Not going to lie... When I read this subject I was expecting someone to say they needed an intervention do to the fact that they have purchased way to many Five Fingers.  I know my Girlfriend would love to place me in a support group.  Any time she walks into the Running Store that carries them here in Pittsburgh... She feels like she is at Cheers.  They all say "HEY! You are the girl of that guy that buys all of our Five Fingers!  Then the last time we went to Elite Runners together I purchased a pair of newer KSO's and they said Hey you have spent X amount at our store and now you will receive a $50.00 off purchase.  Oh she was mad.  I thanked the guys at Elite for starting an arguement... LOL!

Haha that's like my store in Philly... the regulars come in and we all swap stories, like a support group. Come to think of it, I don't know anyone's last names...

Glad I could entertain Worra! I am looking forward to the phone call this week.  Is it wrong that I have been checking my phone every so often to see if I missed the call from the dealer in the area?  Apparently a new shipment is being delivered this week!!!  Super excited!  I'll keep you all posted on what they get.  I am sure it will not be the Bikila's but I am betting on the new Classic colors and maybe some new KSO's.  Can't wait to see how many I am going to walk out the store with.  Thank goodness for TAX RETURNS!

Good morning everybody (central Europe time).
I've got an update concerning my issue with blisters and KSO; Since my last posting, I went for 2 runs (15 Km and 10 Km) and I didn't get any blister. It's true that now I have some callus but I believe that working on the running form helped a lot. After reading some tips about barefoot running (see http://barefootrunninguniversity.com/ ) I concentrated on lifting the feet without pushing and to me that made the trick. I need to run longer distances but I feel I'm on the right way.

Have a good one,

Andy.
